Many people are afraid ofdentists. Everyone has their own reasons for this— some are intimidated bythe prices, others had unpleasant experience. But it’s difficult toavoid dental treatment, soeveryone atsome point plucks upthe courage and visits adentist. And sometimes itcan become areal adventure, which you can then tell all your friends about with laughter orindignation.
- Iwas traveling inataxi, staring atmyphone, when the driver suddenly asked, “Young lady, ifI told you thatI have myown business andI drive ataxi for fun, would you believeme?” Ilookedup. He’s aman inhis forties, well-groomed, neat, not like ordinary taxi drivers.
Igrinned, “Idon’t know... Hard tobelieve.” Henodded, smiled and said, “I’m ataxi driver for fun. Ihave myown dental clinic.” Inodded politely, but ofcourseI didn’t believe him. Really, adentist with aclinic and ataxi driver inthe evenings?
Aweek later, Igo toget mytooth treated. I’m sitting inthe chair, waiting for the doctor, and then the door opens... and hecomesin. The same taxi driver. I’m shocked, helooks atmeand suddenly laughs, “Doyou believe menow?”

Hegave achuckle and said, “It’s fun tomake upstories, isn’t it?”
His nurse (aid) then went atmyteeth with floss, and myteeth immediately cut the floss. They had togothrough 2spools before myteeth stopped cutting the floss. After consultation with the doctor, they informed methat the tooth should beextracted, and sent metothe surgeon’s office. Ientered the office, gave mycard, the doctor invited metothe dental chair and gave meanesthesia.
After acouple ofminutes, heasks meifithurts and taps onmytooth with ametal mirror. Ianswer that yes, Ifeel everything, the anesthesia hasn’t worked yet. Then hesays he’s going tolook atthe tooth again.

Iwas only going intoget mycrown done. Instead, she talked meinto getting 2cavities done. But that turned into 8and 2other crowns. Basically, Iwas held hostage inthe dentist chair for 8hours.
Ididn’t ask for the other work, but she said itwas “too late, Ialready opened upthe other teeth.” She actually did.
